The Maya had great architectural skill. During the Classic period they built large cities that included temples and piramids used for religious rituals and for the observation of the heavens.

Some of the most important buildings are found in the cities of Palenque, Tikal and Uxmal.

In order to support the weight of their buildings the Maya used a distinctive architectural feature known as the "Mayan Arch".

Next, see a guide at the city of Chichen Itza describe some of the features and buildings of one of the most famous mayan cities.
